Agriculture: Dry Beans Pest Management Guidelines

Harvest

This year-round IPM program covers the major pests of dry bean production fields in California. When available, information is provided for common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus), garbanzo beans or chickpeas (Cicer arietinum), and black-eyed cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata), hitherto referred to as "blackeyes."

About Harvest

What should you be doing during this time?

Adjust combine to reduce mechanical damage to bean seeds and bean loss. (See Production Manuals for more information)

Manage pests:

Exercise care when threshing to ensure moisture content of seed below 15%, but not so dry as to increase possibility of splits and cracks. (See Production Manuals for more information)
