Treatment Periods for Most Effective Control in an IPM Program

Treatment Windows for Pests Based on Rice Growth Stage

An infographic demonstrating the best treatment windows for various pests by the growth stages of a rice (Oryza sativa) plant. The pests, in order, are armyworm, rice seed midge, rice water weevil, tadpole shrimp, aggregate sheath spot, bakanae, kernel smut, rice blast, stem rot, algae, broadleaf weeds, grass weeds, perennial weeds, and sedge weeds. The treatment windows are shown as follows: For armyworm there are two windows, one during midtillering, and the second between panicle formation and flowering. For rice seed midge there is one treatment window, from germination to two-leaf stage. For rice water weevil there is one treatment window, from one-leaf stage to four-leaf stage. For tadpole shrimp there is one treatment window, from germination to three-leaf stage. For aggregate sheath spot there is one treatment window, between panicle formation and flowering. For bakanae there is one treatment window, which is as a seed treatment before germination. For kernel smut there is one treatment window, between panicle formation and flowering. For rice blast there is one treatment window, between panicle formation and flowering. For stem rot there is one treatment window, between panicle formation and flowering. For algae there is one treatment window, from first-leaf stage to three-leaf stage. For broadleaf weeds there are two treatment windows, one between one-leaf stage and tiller initiation, and the second during early tillering. For grass weeds there are two treatment windows, one between one-leaf stage and tiller initiation, and the second during early tillering. For perennial weeds there is one treatment window between midtillering and panicle formation. And, finally, for sedge weeds there is one treatment window between one-leaf stage and tiller initiation.
