Symptoms and Signs
Newly planted seedling artichokes, placed in the field as seed or transplants, wilt and collapse. Root and crown tissue is discolored and decayed. Severely infected seedlings rarely recover and will die.
Comments on the Disease
Damping-off is favored by wet conditions and poorly draining soils.
Management
Manage irrigation so that overly wet soil conditions are avoided. Provide good drainage. Use drip irrigation when possible.
