Lesions of angular leaf spot, <i>Xanthomonas fragariae</i>, commonly exude a viscous mixture of bacteria and bacterial exudates when humidity is high or conditions have been wet. Fresh ooze is dark brown then dries so it appears varnishlike or scaly whitish.
