Lesions of angular leaf spot, Xanthomonas fragariae, commonly exude a viscous mixture of bacteria and bacterial exudates when humidity is high or conditions have been wet. Fresh ooze is dark brown then dries so it appears varnishlike or scaly whitish. Credit: Jack Kelly Clark
