How to Manage Pests
Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Poppy—Papaver spp.
Family Papaveraceae (Poppy family)
Plant Identification
Poppies are annual and short-lived perennial plants
often grown in borders or pots. Flowers bloom in spring and
summer. Color varies among species and includes white, orange,
yellow, red, pink, or blue.
Optimum conditions for growth
Poppies grow well in full sun and require moderate
to regular amounts of water. Soil must be well-drained. Poppies
need light fertilizer until they are established. Prune out
old flowers to prolong the bloom period.
