How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Gladiolus—Gladiolus spp.
Family Iridaceae (Iris family)

Plant Identification

Gladiolus are perennials planted from corms which are similar to bulbs.  The plants have long, pointed leaves and tubular flowers.  Flowers bloom from spring to fall and color varies.  Gladiolus are often planted in borders, planting beds, or pots, often attracting hummingbirds.

Optimum conditions for growth

Gladiolus do best when planted in rich, sandy loam.  They require full sun and need regular water during the growing and blooming period.  Gladiolus perform best when flower stalks are supported.
