Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Cosmos—Cosmos
spp.
Family Asteraceae (Sunflower family)
Plant Identification
Cosmos may be annual or perennial plants
often planted in borders or around shrubs. Flowers bloom
in the summer and fall and vary in form and color, attracting
butterflies. Plants have slender branching stems and finely
divided leaves. Annual forms tend to reseed in undisturbed
areas.
Optimum conditions for growth
Cosmos do well in areas with full sun. They
need a moderate amount of water and do best in soils that are well
drained and not too rich.
