The adult spotless lady beetle, Cycloneda sanguinea, on each half of its pronotum (immediately behind the head) has a pale lateral spot surrounded by black coloration. This distinguishes it from the polished lady beetle, Cycloneda munda, and western blood-red lady beetle, Cycloneda polita, which have a pale lateral "C" or almost a complete pale ring on each side of the pronotum, but not a separate pale spot.
