Bacterial bulb rot on onion moves down from the leaves into the neck and starts to rot the bulb from the top.

Two halves of a vertically cut onion lay face up on a table. The onion layers are firm and white. At the top of the bulb, the scales thin and change color to become layers of leaves. This is the neck. At the center of the neck and the top of the bulb, the layers are mushy and rotting. Credit: Brenna J. Aegerter, UCCE San Joaquin County
