UC IPM Makes It Happen
New and revised volumes of Pesticide
Compendium to be released in 2006
The Pesticide Compendium
series is the university’s
major reference for the safe and effective use of pesticides
and
can be invaluable for those who routinely use pesticides or
supervise their use.
UC IPM regularly updates these publications to reflect changes in lawns and regulations and application
technology. The core
study manual, The Safe and Effective Use of Pesticides, 2nd
edition (Volume 1 in this series), presents information relative
to every type of pesticide application. Other volumes in
the series include more specialized information and guidelines
on how to protect human and environmental health that are
specific
to the various licensing areas.
One revised volume will be released in early
2006, and a new volume will be released in summer 2006.
Both
titles
feature
sample
exam
questions at the end of each chapter, reinforcing important
information and preparing the reader to take the Department
of Pesticide Regulation licensing test. Important information
is illustrated in tables, figures, and sidebars.
 Residential,
Industrial, and Institutional Pest Control, 2nd edition
The
second edition of Residential,
Industrial, and Institutional Pest Control, Volume
2, of the UC IPM Program's Pesticide Application Compendium,
is scheduled for release in
January 2006. Volume
2 is written specifically for anyone in California
whose job encompasses the extra sensitive areas of the home,
recreational areas like parks and golf courses, or
the
playground or cafeteria
of a school.
The book has been reviewed and updated with the latest
information and regulations as defined by the California
Department of
Food and Agriculture and the Structural Pest Control
Board. It is also the recommended study guide for
the California
Department of Pesticide Regulation's Qualified Applicator
Certificate
(QAC) and Qualified Applicator License (QAL) examinations
in the Residential, Industrial, and Institutional
Pest Control category.
Landscape Maintenance Pest Control
Landscape Maintenance Pest Control, Volume 7 of the
UC IPM Program's Pesticide Application Compendium,
is scheduled
for release in summer 2006. Volume 7 is written
specifically for
anyone in California who needs to know how to
properly and
safely apply pesticides on landscapes; interiorscapes,
such as shopping malls or offices; and the turfgrass
of a playing
field or golf course.
This book is the recommended study guide for
the California Department of Pesticide Regulation's
Qualified Applicator
Certificate (QAC) and Qualified Applicator
License (QAL) examinations in
the Landscape Maintenance Pest Control and
Maintenance Gardener categories.
 IPM for Potatoes, 2nd edition
The second edition of Integrated
Pest Management for Potatoes in the Western United States is scheduled for release in
February 2006. This IPM manual, first
published in 1986 and reprinted
in 1992, has been completely revised.
More than 110 insects, diseases, physiological
disorders, nematodes,
weeds,
and other pest problems that affect potatoes
in western states
are discussed
and illustrated.
The second edition contains 51 new color
photos and 58 tables and line drawings,
many of which
have been
extensively
revised
or redrawn. The new edition includes
a section on organic potato production,
and
a comprehensive
index
has also
been added.
Forty university researchers and Cooperative
Extension specialists from California,
Colorado, Idaho, Montana,
New Mexico, and
Oregon contributed to making this
revision an up-to-date and essential reference
for potato growers and
pest management professionals. Senior
Writer Larry L.
