Oregano – Origanum vulgare
Family Lamiaceae (Mint family)

Plant Description

Oregano is a shrubby perennial herb grown for its small, aromatic, oval grey-green leaves. Many varieties are available with some being more pungent or spicy. Greek and Italian oregano are good culinary varieties. Other varieties include Hot and Spicy, Aureum, and Compactum. Oregano can be used fresh or dried. It grows well in full sun with well-drained soil. Cut or pinch off flowers to favor leaf growth and for better flavor.

Cultural Tips

Cultural practices such as proper site selection, soil preparation, planting, and watering are important for plant health, pest management, and pest reduction when growing oregano.
