How to Manage Pests

The UC Guide to Healthy Lawns

Ordering sod

When ordering or obtaining sod, be prepared to install it immediately because sod is perishable. It is best to install it within two hours of delivery. Never leave sod stacked longer than 24 hours.

Where to get it

Place your order with a nursery or grower about a week before you intend to plant. You will need to calculate the square footage of your planting area so that the supplier will know how many rolls you need.

What to look for

The sod must be moist but not too wet. It should have good green color with no yellowing areas. Sod thickness is important. The soil into which the sod is anchored should be 3/4- to 1-inch thick.
