The soil must be cultivated before the
area can be replanted. With a garden rake, remove any debris that
is present, such as old roots or other plant parts. Work the soil
to break up clods and remove weeds. Till in soil
amendments, if needed, and add starter
fertilizer. Do the final grading with a long aluminum rake or
a wooden lawn rake. Make sure the planting site is firm and level.
Irrigate the site and allow it to settle before planting.
