How to Manage Pests

The UC Guide to Healthy Lawns

Work the soil

The soil must be cultivated before the area can be replanted. With a garden rake, remove any debris that is present, such as old roots or other plant parts. Work the soil to break up clods and remove weeds. Till in soil amendments, if needed, and add starter fertilizer. Do the final grading with a long aluminum rake or a wooden lawn rake. Make sure the planting site is firm and level. Irrigate the site and allow it to settle before planting.

Next step to patching your lawn
