Lawn moths and sod webworms Life cycle
Adults drop their eggs on turf
leaves at night. Larvae emerge within a few days to a week. During
the day they hide in silk-lined burrows, coming out at night to feed
on leaves. First instar webworms skeletonize leaves while later instars
notch or cut off leaf blades and pull them into the burrow. Sod webworms
pupate in the soil/thatch layer. Adults emerge in the spring and are
active through fall. There may be up to 4 generations a year in warm
areas. |
