How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Tanbark oak, Tanoak, Tan oak— Lithocarpus densiflorus
Family Fagaceae (Beech family)

Plant Identification

Tanbark oak is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 80 feet tall.  Leaves are leathery and sharply toothed.  As leaves develop, they are covered with white or yellowy wool.  Older leaves are green above and grayish green underneath.  Clusters of small white flowers bloom in summer, and acorns form.

Optimum conditions for growth

Tanbark oaks are often grown as street or lawn trees.  They do best in areas with full sun or light shade and require no additional or little to moderate amounts of water.
