How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Palo verde—Cercidium spp.
Family Fabaceae (Pea family)

Plant Identification

Palo verdes are tough deciduous trees.  Branches are spiny and intricately arranged.  Bark and branches are often greenish in color.  In spring, clusters of bright yellow flowers form.  Leaves are often divided into tiny leaflets.  Trees are attractive to birds.

Optimum conditions for growth

Palo verdes do well in areas with full sun and require little to moderate amounts of water.  Prune to remove crossing or low branches, but do not prune when temperatures are above 100°F.
