Plant identification

Maytenus boaria is a somewhat slow-growing evergreen tree.  Leaves are narrow and light or medium green.  Long branchlets hang down from branches, resembling a weeping willow.  Trees produce inconspicuous flowers and fruit. 

Optimum conditions for growth

Mayten trees do well in areas with full sun.  Grow in well-drained soil and provide moderate to regular amounts of water.  Provide deep water so that roots don’t form near the soil surface and invade planting beds.
