Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Linden—Tilia spp.
Family Tiliaceae (Linden family)
Plant IdentificationLindens are dense deciduous trees. They have somewhat heart-shaped leaves and produce drooping clusters of small, fragrant yellowish-white flowers in the spring or early summer. Flowers develop into nutlets.
Optimum conditions for growthLindens are often planted as a lawn, patio, or street tree. They can also be shaped into hedges. They do well in areas with full sun and in rich, moist soil. Provide regular watering. Shape trees when young. Prune older trees as needed.
