Plant Identification
Ironwood is an evergreen tree. Leaves are lobed, scalloped, or divided into lobed leaflets. Trees bloom in late spring or early summer and produce clusters of small white flowers. Old flowers turn brown. Young twigs and bark are often reddish.
Optimum conditions for growth
Ironwood does best near the coast. It prefers areas with full sun and moderate amounts of water. Provide good drainage. Prune in winter to shape the growth. Prune off old flower clusters.
