How to Manage Pests
Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Ficus, Fig, Indian laurel, Laurel fig—Ficus spp.*
Family Moraceae (Mulberry family)
Plant Identification
Ficus spp. are evergreen and deciduous trees, shrubs, and vines. They produce small or large mostly inedible figs which are inverted flowers.
*Some species are invasive weeds. Other types of plants may be better choices when planting.
For information on pests and problems on edible fig, refer to figs in the fruit and tree section.
Optimum conditions for growth
The growth requirements for Ficus spp. vary depending upon species. Most require bright, indirect light and do well in rich, moist soil with light fertilizer. Ficus spp. make good houseplants or do well outdoors in containers on patios.
