How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Aralia, Angelica—(Fatsia japonica = Aralia sieboldii) spp. Family Araliaceae (Ginseng family)

Plant Identification

Aralias are deciduous or evergreen shrubs or trees and can grow up to 25 or 30 feet tall.  Branches are spiny with large divided leaves.  Aralia produces white flowers and purple or black berries.

Optimum conditions for growth

Aralia grow best in areas with full sun or partial shade.  They require regular or moderate water and good drainage.  Taller trees are not suited for small gardens.  Small shrubs are good container plants.  Avoid planting in areas of high wind to avoid burning the foliage.  Aralia tends to form suckers.  Dig them out to limit the spread.
