Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Natural enemies of adelgids
Many predators feed on adelgids, including several species of small dark lady beetles, lacewings, and
the maggotlike larvae of some small flies in the Cecidomyiidae and Chamaemyiidae families. Predators are
especially important in natural forests, where most adelgids are uncommon. Except for the balsam woolly
adelgid, Adelges piceae, a serious pest of fir in the Northwest and Northeast, there has been little
research on the adelgid's natural enemies, especially in landscapes.
