How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Needle cast fungi—Various fungi including Elytroderma, Lophodermella, Lophodermium, Phaeocryptopus, Rhabdocline, and Rhizosphaera spp.

Needle cast fungi can cause chlorosis, black to brown lesions, or spots or streaks to appear on needles and stems. Cankers and brown streaks may occur on wood. Branches may die back. Moist conditions favor the growth of needle cast fungi.

Solutions

Remove nearby plants and weeds, thin the plant canopy, and prune off lower limbs to reduce humidity.
