Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Juniper twig blights—Kabatina juniperi, Phomopsis juniperovora

The fungal pathogens that cause twig blights in juniper infect wet foliage through wounds. The foliage becomes brown, red, or yellow and wilts. Shoots die back and may be bushy or stunted.

Solutions

Avoid wounding twigs, except to prune out and dispose of infected shoots. Keep foliage dry. Use drip irrigation and provide good air circulation. Avoid overfertilization.
