How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Sunburn

The bark of young tree trunks and exposed limbs on older trees may be sensitive to sunburn. Sunburned bark is cracked, somewhat sunken, and is susceptible to attack by wood borers and wood-rot fungi.

Solutions

Use tree wrap or paint trunks of young trees with whitewash or a white, interior water-based paint to protect them against sunburn.
