Figure 17. To calculate how much water the soil can hold at field capacity, first examine the soil profile to see
if there are layers of different soil textures in the rooting depth of the crop. For each soil layer, multiply
the depth of the soil layer in feet (or meters) by the available water-holding capacity of that soil texture
(see below). Add the results from all the layers to get the total available water-holding capacity for the soil profile.
Sand 1.0 inches/foot (8.3 cm/m)
