These photos taken with an electron microscope show the features that distinguish eggs of Helicoverpa (Heliothis) from cabbage looper eggs. Helicoverpa (Heliothis) eggs (left) are more spherical and have thick ridges radiating like ribs from top to bottom. Looper eggs (right) are more flattened and have a larger number of much finer ridges.
