Watch for birds and their damage during routine field monitoring and harvest operations.
White-crowned sparrow Identification tip: Small, brown and gray with prominent white and black stripes on head.
House finch Identification tip: Small, grayish brown bird with brown markings on the breast; males have red or orange head and rump.
Bird damage Identification tip: Most birds leave peck marks and holes in fruit; pieces of fruit scattered about.
Goldfinch damage Identification tip: Achenes (seeds) removed from surface of fruit; little or no damage to fruit tissue.
