Peach Twig Borers, Fruittree Leafrollers, Obliquebanded Leafrollers, and Katydids

The following photos and identification tips will help you identify caterpillars and katydids that are present in the orchard at this time of year. Each name links to a guideline with more identification and management information.

Identification tip: Darker body segments give older larvae a distinctive ringed appearance.		 Fruittree leafroller.

Identification tip: Green larva with dark head hangs from silken thread when disturbed.

Identification tip: Yellow-green larva with brown head; hangs by thread when disturbed; difficult to distinguish from fruittree leafroller.

 

 Katydids.

Identification tip: Feeding damage in the early season consists of small holes in leaves, caused by the young nymphs.
