Identification tip: Look for ants on vines to see if they are tending mealybugs or scale. Note that bark was peeled away to expose these vine mealybugs.

Delayed dormant spur
Identification tip: Spurs are 1- to 2-year old canes that were cut back to 1 to 2 buds at pruning.

Identification tip: After tapping buds over white paper, look for small (.04 inch) elongate insects. This is the nymphal stage.
