California PestCast: Insect Models

Long before the California PestCast Project, the Statewide IPM Program began developing a centralized database with information about insect phenology models. Under PestCast, many of these models are being validated.

Each model includes information on:

  • degree-day accumulations required for specific developmental stages of an organism
  • developmental threshold(s)
  • method of calculation
  • reference source
  • location of the study
More than one model may be presented for an organism if citations occur in the literature.

Emphasis has always been on models of organisms important to California agriculture, but the models may be useful to researchers, extension agents, consultants, or growers in other regions. The models were taken from the research or extension literature. In general, UC IPM has no information about the validity of any model. For more information about any model, see the references cited in the database.
