Black turfgrass ataenius, Life cycle
Adults burrow into the thatch and upper
soil where they lay clutches of 11 or 12 eggs. Eggs hatch into grubs,
which take several weeks or months to mature depending on the season.
The pest pupates in the soil. At least two or three, and possibly up
to five, generations develop in California each year. Populations of
adults are highest between June and September. |
