Why
Is the Postharvest Season Important in an IPM Program?
After harvest consider planting a cover crop in row
middles to reduce weed growth, or allow resident vegetation to
grow. A cover crop may also help reduce erosion, soil compaction,
and water and sediment runoff to creeks and
streams that ultimately impair water quality. Perennial weeds
are a
major problem and should be kept from establishing in row middles.
Ideally, tree rows are weed free.
For more information on weed management in established orchards
see the Integrated
Weed Management Pest Management Guideline.
