How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Close planting of carrots

Roots of carrots that are planted too close together twist around one another. Roots may be hairy, forked, or misshapen.

Identification

Carrots that have been planted too close together have symptoms that are also characteristic of overwatering, nematodes, hard soils, or root dieback (Pythium spp.).

Solutions

Thin carrots to 1 to 2 inches apart when plants are small.
