How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Frost on artichokes

Plants affected by frost have discoloration or streaks on choke leaves. Plants can die.

Solutions

Remove any shriveled or brown artichokes. In most cases, frost does not cause enough damage to warrant control. Plants can be protected from frost injury by covering them with floating row cover or using protective shelters if freezing conditions occur during early growth. These covers should be prevented from touching the plant. Lightly damaged chokes can still be eaten.
