How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Pomegranate—Punica granatum
Family Punicaceae (Pomegranate family)

Plant Identification

Pomegranates are attractive deciduous shrubs or trees.  New leaf growth is bronze, turning bright or golden green in spring and then yellow in the fall.  Single or double flowers with ruffled petals are produced in the summer.  Blossoms may be orange-red to dark red.

Optimum conditions for growth

Pomegranates are often grown in shrub borders, as hedges, as foundation plants, or in containers.  They do well in areas with full sun and are tolerant of most soil types.  Provide moderate to regular amounts of water.  Prune out old stems to encourage new growth.
