Pests in Gardens and Landscapes
Hibiscus—Hibiscus spp.
Family Malvaceae (Hibiscus family)
Plant Identification
Hibiscus spp. are grown as annuals, perennials, and evergreen and deciduous shrubs or trees. They generally have funnel-shaped blossoms which bloom in a variety of colors including white, yellow, red, or pink. Many species bloom year round.
Optimum conditions for growth
Hibiscus plants do best in areas with full sun and regular amounts of water. They can be found in landscapes, containers, hanging baskets, raised beds, or as houseplants. Provide good drainage. Prune out old wood. Protect from frost.
