How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Daphne—Daphne spp.
Family Thymelaeaceae (Daphne family)

Plant Identification

Daphnes are evergreen, semievergreen, or deciduous shrubs.  Leaves are narrow, some with old edges.  Flowers are produced in clusters and vary in color, including white, pink, blue, red, and purple.  Foliage, flowers, and fruit are poisonous.

Optimum conditions for growth

Daphnes are grown as borders or in rock gardens and can do well in full sun or partial shade depending on the species.  Most require moderate amounts of water and well-drained soil.  Plants can tolerate heavy pruning but don’t generally require much.
