Pruning peach and nectarine trees
All peaches and nectarines bear on 1-year-old wood -- wood that grew last season. The best production
is on the longer branches. However, in order to maintain good production each season, it is important
to trim about half of the growth each year. Head back long shoots by one-fourth to one-half and trim
small short shoots out completely. Thin out the center of the tree to improve light penetration. |
