Common landscape weeds: Annuals

When developing a weed management plan for an existing planting or after an installation is in place, consider the types of landscape plants present, and the weeds present and their life cycles (annual, biennial, perennial).

Weeds marked with an asterisk (*) are particularly troublesome.

Annual bluegrass

California burclover

Common groundsel

Crabgrass

Pigweed

Pigweeds, Amaranthus spp.

Prickly lettuce

Prickly lettuce, Lactuca serriola.

Common purslane

Common purslane, Portulaca oleracea.

Sowthistle

Sowthistles, Sonchus spp.

Petty spurge

*Petty spurge, Euphorbia (=Chamaesyce) peplus.

Hare barley

Hare barley, Hordeum murinum ssp. leporinum.

Wild oat

Wild oat, Avena fatua.
