Plant Description
Turnips are a root vegetable in the same family as broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. While primarily grown for the edible root, the greens are also edible and can be prepared similarly to other dark leafy greens. They are grown annually as a cool season crop. Varieties that are suitable for California include Purple Top, Royal Crown, Scarlet Queen, De Milan, and Tokyo.
