Plant Identification
Star jasmine is an evergreen shrub or vine often grown as ground cover, trailers, or climbers. Leaves are oval, up to 3 inches long, and are glossy light green when young and dark green when mature. Blossoms are white, pinwheel-shaped, and form in clusters on short side branches. Flowers are fragrant and attractive to bees. A milky sap exudes from cut stems.
Optimum conditions for growth
Star jasmine grows best in well-drained soil. Plants should be fertilized once before spring growth begins, and then again after flowers have bloomed. Prune regularly to maintain the desired shape. When planted as ground cover, set plants 5 feet apart.
