Lettuce is a cool-season vegetable and can be direct seeded or transplanted. Leaf lettuce is most commonly grown in home gardens. These varieties have green or reddish leaves and are fast-growing and long-lasting. Head lettuce (including Bibb lettuce, Iceberg, and Romaine) can also be grown in home gardens but typically require a long, cool growing season.
