Plant Identification

Dodonaea viscosa is a fast-growing evergreen shrub that grows up to 15 feet tall. Shrubs can be trained to grow as trees by cutting out all stems but one. Leaves are willowlike and flowers are inconspicuous. In summer, red, pink, green, or yellow seedpods are formed and are long lasting.

Optimum conditions for growth

Dodonaea viscosa prefers warmer areas and does well in areas with full sun or light shade. Plants do well in flowerbeds. They can be pruned into a hedge or unpruned and left as a screen. Plants tolerate any soil, ocean wind, and dry heat.
