Plant Identification

Baccharis species are evergreen woody shrubs or ground covers that can be used as bank covers, for erosion control, or in natural landscapes. They require little care once established. Most have inconspicuous flowers. Female plants will be covered with cottony fluff of seeds in late fall.

Optimum conditions for growth

Most baccharis species are adaptable to the desert regions of the southwest or to the California high deserts. Baccharis species prefer full sun. They need little water in coastal areas but inland do best with occasional summer water.
