  • Alstroemeria spp.
  • Family Alstroemeriaceae (Peruvian lily family)
Updated: 02/2026

Plant Identification

Alstroemerias are either evergreen or deciduous perennials. Flowers bloom in early to mid-summer and are produced in clusters at the tops of leafy stems. Flowers attract hummingbirds and vary in color. They may be bright or have distinct markings such as flecks, stripes, or blotches.

Optimum conditions for growth

Alstroemerias grow best in soils with good drainage. They need regular water during the growth and bloom period. They do well in full sun but prefer afternoon shade in areas of extreme heat. Mulch may help protect plants where winters are extremely cold.
