Plant identification
Arctostaphylos spp. are evergreen groundcovers and shrubs. Many varieties are available. Characteristic of manzanita are beautiful bell-shaped flowers and red bark.
Optimum conditions for growth
The climatic zone for Manzanita varies by species. They do best in full sun and like well-drained soils. Some water is required while plants are young; once plants are established, little summer water is required. Irrigate every 1 to 2 weeks on light, porous soils. Irrigating once a month or less is necessary on heavier soils.
