Marty Martino retired in February after being with the University of California for over 29 years. He started with the University in 1989 and with the UC IPM Program in 1994.
Martino was an outstanding addition to the Information Technology/Production Team for more than 25 years as the computer resource specialist and meteorology assistant. As the computer resource specialist, Martino’s primary responsibilities included keeping everyone’s computer running and updated, help with loading webpages, updating the water-related risk tools (WaterTox developed in 2004 and still being used today), and updating the weed susceptibility to herbicides databases. He also ensured that the weather data was accurate and available for the pest weather models, such as the fire blight degree-day model, grape powdery mildew index, and various insect degree-day models. He will be deeply missed, but we are happy for him as he moves on to other adventures.
