John Sung joined UC IPM in July as the computer resources specialist and programmer.
Sung graduated from UC Davis in 2019 with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering with a minor in computer science. He is skilled in programming and experienced with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ReactJS. While attending UC Davis, Sung worked with several UC Davis departments as information technology (IT) desktop and customer support, student web developer, and IT risk analysis support. In addition to identifying and communicating effective technical solutions for end users, Sung also worked with various content management systems (CMS) and helped to update and migrate hundreds of websites from WordPress to SiteFarm (a Drupal CMS solution). As part of the migration, he also helped to increase visitor traffic to these sites by monitoring and analyzing web data using Google Analytics and implementing search engine optimization (SEO) best practices.
For UC IPM, Sung will provide help desk support, IT system administration, project programming such as for the nonchemical weed management for natural areas online tool, and migration and enhancement of the UC IPM weather and pest models, as well as manage the day-to-day operation of the IPM PestCast weather network.
