David Haviland, UC Cooperative Extension advisor and affiliated IPM advisor, won two awards: the 2019 Western Extension Director’s Association Award of Excellence and the 2019 Association of Applied IPM Ecologist Member of the Year. For the Award of Excellence, Haviland was invited to receive his award and give a short presentation to the joint meeting of Western state extension directors, research station directors, agriculture and extension deans and Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching (CARET) members at the July meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Cheryl Reynolds, interactive learning developer and photo librarian, was presented a UC Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) award to acknowledge her exceptional performance and significant contributions.
Reynolds received the award because of her exceptional job performance and work success. When ANR shut down their learning platform UC IPM moved all 19 online courses to eXtension. Reynolds prepared the plan and conducted the course transfers. There were several obstacles that came to light during the process that Reynolds tackled successfully by learning about new software and innovative workarounds. Reynolds added closed captioning to meet basic Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and made sure free versions on the online courses were available for participants wanting to learn but not needing continuing education units. This was all achieved by Reynolds while delivering on all other tasks and meeting established deadlines (including developing two new online courses and starting a new monthly webinar series). UC IPM’s online courses get very positive feedback from hundreds of our online learners thanks to Cheryl Reynolds.
